New Adopt-A-Disciple Program!

17 August 2010

The Union Gospel Mission is pleased to announce the new Adopt-A-Disciple program. The effort will help donors, mentors and volunteers and get to know the men at The Union Gospel Mission in hopes that the community will become more personally involved with the men and the mission.

“We’ve had the opportunity to get to know these men. They have faced incredible trials and have such tender hearts,” states Jon Rector, Director of The Union Gospel Mission. “Our goal is to help others get to know these men and join with us to help them regain their lives as productive citizens.”

The Adopt-A-Disciple program provides an opportunity for people to become involved remotely or personally — whatever suits their comfort level. Simple prayers, calls or letters mean so much to these men — many of whom have no other family besides their “brothers” at the mission.

“Our dream is for people in the community to take an active role in helping us show the love of Jesus to these men,” shares Wayne Hammel, Program Director. “If we could find just a few people who would mentor the men or even just come to our chapel services, that would mean the world to the men.”
